Ready, Sets

Hey guys! So, this week has been a little hectic for me but I'm excited about this new post. Its about sets of linework art from semester 1.

This first set is from my drawing class, done in pen and marker. They are of objects collected from my room, a figurative self portrait, if you will. The first is a contour, for the most part, and the second is a representation of negative and positive space.

This mixed media set requires a bit of explanation. The top image was done in illustrator, its a photo of myself in a reflective surface with all tone changes outlined. I cannot even begin to express how much time this took to do. The lower image is that same photograph with the tone changes painted in with hand mixed acrylics. This was a time-consuming but very fun project.

I always thought that linework was a really interesting form of representation, borderlining illustration to some extent, since real life objects dont have an outline around them. Instead, the lines represent a dramatic change in tone that we see, and they represent a form. They can be very effective in their representation.

FINALLY

So it feels like FOREVER since i've updated this thing! Its been about a year actually. Anyways, I'm in my second year now and I've come bearing more pieces and such. I think I want to start off with something new: Sculptural pieces! Let me know what you think.

Hope you love them!!
The top one is a wire hand based off my own, wrapped in different colored yarn. The second series of photos is of two separate but conjoining pieces. The inner piece is carved from styrofoam and wrapped in black and leopard fabric with pins. The outer piece is a laminated wood sculpture made from plywood and crafted to hold the inner piece so that it hovers. These were both made for my F11 3D class.

Fun, Sun, You know the drill.

Hey guys, this will probably be the last post I make before I leave for St. Martin on the 23rd (if i still go). Anyways, I'm happy to announce that I will now be posting very recent work, starting with my major summer project from the summer of 2010.

This is a mural that is currently in my little sisters room (thats her in the picture). I designed and painted the mural, mixed all the paints, you get the drill. This was actually a very long and difficult process, as I had to make a lot of changes in the process. All in all, however, I'm quite pleased with how it came out. Let me know what you all think, I'd like some opinions :]

Ways to Waste Your Time!

If you havent seen the series yet, Reckless Tortuga has this hilarious mini show called Psycho Girlfriend. Give it a try, its really quite funny. Also, if you have a girlfriend that ISNT like the one in this series, make sure you treat her good!

Finals Week

Ugh, sorry I havent been posting, like.... at all. Its my finals week for my first fall semester at Parsons! Only 7 more to go, hahah. Anyways, I'm slowly moving towards posting only recent work, which is quite exciting. Over the holiday break, however, I wont be able to make as many posts, as I'll be on vacation in St. Martin, and then it'll be my birthday, and then I'm going to visit Regh out in Michigan. SOOOOOOOOO seeing as I'll be vury vury busy, I dont know how often I can post.

This post is a continuation of my last one. Its the rest of the pieces I have from my Cooper Union challenge. I hope you enjoy them.

water color, colored pencil

chalk pastel

oil paint

The first piece was supposed to be an idealized self portrait, so I put my head on a mannequin (MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER KTHNX). The second piece is a made up plant composed of three different plants from the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. The third piece is an unwalkable landscape. Let me know what you guys think!

Dont Even Know

Sorry for the delay, guys! I know its been, like.... a week since my last post. Hope you all had a totally awesome thanksgiving!

I spent my thanksgiving with my lovey-dovey Regh, everyone should go check out his awesome blogspot if you havent seen it already. Also over the break, I've been working on this really sick 3D assignment that I just posted on my deviantart. But I'll get to that some other time.

Today I thought I'd take you guys back to my college application process. Hopefully you've all already seen my Parsons challenge images (older post), so now I'll show you a few pieces I submitted to Cooper Union.

part 1 of a 3 part series on horses: graphite

part 3 of my series of horses: watercolor

food chain: colored pencil

As you may have noticed, I chose to leave out the second horse. Believe me, it wasnt very good and not worth putting up. The purpose of the horses was to visually show a beat or rhythm, I did it with horses galloping, the figure of the horses becoming looser as the series progressed. Note that the first horse is much neater and more precise than the third. The food chain piece represents "stasis". If you cant tell, there are three animals in that piece: a fox, an owl, and a rat. Fox eats owl, owl eats rat, you get it. These assignments seem a bit absurd, I actually had to look up the word stasis before I could begin, but tell that to the people at Cooper Union. Anyways, hope you like the pieces!
